Nearly 50 years ago, Gene Long founded Long’s Vacuum. In those days, restoring and repairing vacuums was the bulk of his business. Providing belts, bags, accessories and product support was the remainder.
Today, the environment has dramatically changed. Here is a closer look at the market dynamics that drive our industry today:
The big box retailer has had the most impact. They demand cheap, and manufacturers have responded to achieve lower pricing. Low-grade plastic and wood replaced metal. Bushing motors, which are the heart of the vacuum, do little more than make noise. And, service has been replaced with vacuums filling our dumpsites.
In spite of this new reality, Long’s Vacuum & Appliance is still just as committed to quality and service as we were 50 years ago. Fortunately, our industry is still made up of manufacturers that are just as committed, too! There are very few quality players left, and we represent four of them: MIELE, RICCAR, SEBO and IQ AIR.
